Philokalia is a free, non-commercial reference site. There is nothing to buy, no account to open, and no subscription.

What this site is

An interactive map of Eastern Orthodox Christianity: topics, the connections between them, and the sources each one rests on. It is an educational reference. It is not a parish, not a jurisdiction, and not a substitute for a priest, a confessor or a catechist.

Accuracy

Every topic cites the works it draws on, so a reader can check it rather than take it on trust. The material is still summarised, and summaries lose things. Where the site computes something from the calendar, it states only what follows from the reckoning and says nothing on days it cannot establish. If you find an error, the Suggest button is the way to report it.

What you may do with it

Read it, link to it, quote it with attribution, and use it in teaching. The quoted sources belong to their own authors and publishers and are cited, not reproduced.

Contributions

Suggestions sent through the site are read by hand before anything changes. Sending one does not oblige anyone to publish it, and material that is published may be edited. Do not send anything confidential, and do not send anything you do not have the right to share.

The site is offered as it is, without any guarantee that it will be available, complete or free of error.
