Roman soldier from Cappadocia who was martyred under Emperor Diocletian for refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods. One of the most venerated military saints. The dragon-slaying legend symbolizes the triumph of faith over evil. Patron saint of England, Georgia, Ethiopia, and many Orthodox nations. Feast: April 23.
