St. Anastasia the Deliverer from Potions

A Roman woman who spent her fortune going from prison to prison in the last persecution, feeding, washing and treating the confessors in chains, and who was burned at Sirmium around 304. Her name means resurrection. Her relics were brought to Constantinople in the fifth century, and she was called Pharmakolytria, the one who loosens the effects of poison and potions, because of the healings asked of her. The monastery that bears her name near Thessaloniki has kept a relic of her since the ninth century. Feast: December 22.
