St. Arsenios of Cappadocia

The priest and schoolmaster of Farasa, a Greek village in Cappadocia, for more than fifty years, who taught the children their letters and the whole village their faith and was sought by Christians and Muslims alike for healing. He baptised a baby of the village in 1924 and gave him his own name, Arsenios, saying he would leave a monk behind him: the child became St Paisios. That year the exchange of populations uprooted Farasa, and he walked with his people to the sea and brought them to Greece, and died on Corfu forty days after landing, as he had said he would. Glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1986. Feast: November 10.
