The Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia

A small church with a heavy history. It traces itself to the mission of Sts Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia in the ninth century, and in its modern form to St Gorazd of Prague, who was consecrated in 1921 and was shot by the Germans in 1942 after the cathedral crypt in Prague was found to have sheltered the men who killed Heydrich. The church was suppressed entirely for the rest of the occupation. Moscow granted it autocephaly in 1951 and the Ecumenical Patriarchate recognised that in 1998.
