St. Iakovos of Evia

Iakovos Tsalikis, born in Asia Minor in 1920 and brought to Greece as a child in the expulsions of 1922, who grew up in a village of Evia, was tonsured at the monastery of St David the Elder, and was its abbot from 1975. He spent long hours in confession with the crowds who came to the monastery, was known for his simplicity and for a gift of healing, and said of himself that he was an uneducated man who knew only the services. He died on the feast of the Entry of the Theotokos in 1991. Glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2017. Feast: November 22.
