St. Matrona of Moscow

Born blind and without eyes in a village in Tula province in 1881, and unable to walk from the age of seventeen. She spent the Soviet decades moved from one room to another across Moscow by whoever would take her, praying with the stream of people who found her, and she died in 1952 saying they should come to her grave and speak to her as if she were alive. They did, in such numbers that the grave became one of the few open places of pilgrimage in the Soviet Union. Glorified in 1999 and now among the most visited saints in Russia. Feast: April 19 (on the Old Calendar, 2 May).
