Canon 18 Conspiracies of clergy and monks are forbidden
The Fourth Ecumenical Council · Chalcedon, 451 · convened by the emperor Marcian · Fourth Ecumenical Council: Chalcedon (451) on the map
The crime of conspiracy or of faction has been altogether prohibited even by the laws outside; much more, then, is it fitting to forbid it to happen in the Church of God. If, therefore, any clerics or monks should be found conspiring, or forming factions, or contriving plots against bishops or fellow clerics, let them fall altogether from their own rank.
