St. Photius the Great (c. 810-893)
Patriarch of Constantinople, great scholar and theologian. Defended Orthodoxy against the Filioque addition and papal claims of universal jurisdiction. His 'Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit' is the definitive Orthodox treatise against the Filioque. Also wrote the Bibliotheca: summaries of 280 ancient works. Feast: February 6.
