St. Polycarp of Smyrna (c. 69-155)

Bishop of Smyrna, disciple of the Apostle John, and teacher of St. Irenaeus of Lyon. Martyred at age 86, famously declaring: 'Eighty-six years I have served Him, and He has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me?' His martyrdom account is the earliest surviving detailed martyrdom narrative. Feast: February 23.
