Filioque Controversy

The Western (Latin) addition of 'and the Son' (Filioque) to the Nicene Creed regarding the procession of the Holy Spirit. Orthodoxy maintains the original Creed: the Spirit proceeds from the Father alone. The Filioque was a major theological cause of the Great Schism of 1054.
