St. Mark of Ephesus (1394-1444)

Metropolitan of Ephesus, hero of Orthodoxy at the Council of Florence (1438-1439). The only Eastern bishop who refused to sign the act of union with Rome, which he considered a betrayal of Orthodoxy. His refusal preserved the integrity of the Eastern Church. Feast: January 19.
