St. Spyridon of Trimythous

A shepherd of Cyprus, married, with a daughter, who was made bishop of Trimythous and went on keeping sheep. He suffered in the last persecution and by tradition came to Nicaea, where he is said to have answered a philosopher with a single potsherd that burst into fire, ran with water and left clay in his hand: three and one. The Church sings him as simple and unlearned and a match for the learned, and a wonderworker whose gifts were for the poor. His body, incorrupt, was carried out of Constantinople when the city fell and came to Corfu in 1456, and Corfu has kept him since, carrying him through the streets four times a year.
