St. Symeon the New Theologian (949-1022)

Abbot of St. Mamas monastery in Constantinople, the third saint given the title 'Theologian' (after St. John the Evangelist and St. Gregory). Emphasized personal, experiential knowledge of God through the Holy Spirit. Wrote extensively about seeing the divine light in this life. A bridge between the Desert Fathers and later Hesychasm. Feast: March 12.
