Third Ecumenical Council: Ephesus (431)
Condemned Nestorianism (which implied two persons in Christ) and affirmed 'Theotokos' as a title for the Virgin Mary. St. Cyril of Alexandria presided against Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople. Affirmed the unity of Christ's person.
