St. Justin Popovic

Serbian monk, theologian and confessor, kept for decades under the communist authorities in the monastery of Celije where he was forbidden to teach and wrote anyway. His Dogmatics of the Orthodox Church runs to three volumes and his Lives of the Saints to twelve, written by hand, month by month, for a Church that had lost the books. His theme is that the Church is the God-man Christ extended through the ages, and that any humanism which stops at man is therefore an amputation. He was a sharp critic of ecumenism as practised in his lifetime and said so in print at some cost. Glorified by the Serbian Church in 2010. Feast: June 1.
