Ukrainian-born monk who became abbot of Neamt Monastery in Romania. Translated the Philokalia into Slavonic as the Dobrotolubiye, sparking a massive spiritual renewal across the Slavic world. Revived the practice of spiritual eldership (startchestvo) in Russian monasticism, directly influencing the Optina elders. Feast: November 15.
