Abbot of the Stoudios Monastery in Constantinople. Led the defense of icons during the second period of Iconoclasm, suffering exile three times. Reformed monastic life with strict communal discipline. His letters and catechetical discourses are important historical and spiritual sources. Feast: November 11.
